0351_200How fast does your hair grow in metres per second? You might think hair doesn't grow in metres per second – or you might have the kind of lateral mind you need to get the most out of maths at St Paul's. Our maths teaching encourages students to become resourceful problem-solvers who can think precisely, logically and creatively. What we do enables our students to apply maths across our curriculum and to situations that might come up in their own lives.

As well as teaching the whole class together, we do lots of activities and puzzles individually and in small groups. The teaching often involves practical experiments too – such as making tessellation patterns or collecting statistics about ourselves. Students also take part in the UK Maths Challenge to stretch their mathematical curiosity even further and every year a few of our participants qualify for the Mathematical Olympiad.
