Anglo-Irish Conference

On 14 May VIII A Level historians were treated to a conference on Anglo-Irish history, 1798-21. We were lucky to hear both Professor Boyd Hilton of Trinity College, Cambridge and also Professor Tom Bartlett of the University of Aberdeen.

Professor Hilton gave an extremely scholarly lecture on the nature of British policy towards Ireland in this period, focusing in particular on Home Rule, while Professor Bartlett gave an engaging and thought-provoking talk on the nature of nationalism, bringing his analysis right up to the present day.
