Young Scientist of the Year

Many congratulations to Izzy Watts in VII for being named the L’Oreal National Young Scientist of the Year. The first stage of the competition involved submitting an essay entitled ‘How and Why We Taste’. Twenty one candidates were shortlisted and invited to attend a hands-on DNA workshop at the Royal Institution. Four Paulinas (Izzy Watts, Xanthe Gwyn Palmer, Alice Hart and Piriyanga Kesavan) were selected. During the day the girls’ practical skills were assessed as well as their ability to work with others. The final task involved a presentation of their experimental work to a panel of judges. Izzy won £200 in book tokens and a year’s subscription to a scientific journal for the school.
