Sweet Charity

Energetic and full of verve, Sweet Charity, the long awaited autumn production, delighted its packed first night audience. The keenly observed history of the varied life of a New York dance hall hostess presented an unsparing portrayal of the hilarious ups, tragic downs and bitter sweet dead ends of life, charting the hapless romances of our heroine Charity Hope Valentine from jilted girlfriend to abandoned fiancé. A strong cast made the most of popular show tunes, including ‘The Rhythm of Life’ and ''Big Spender', whilst the Broadway style choreography from the masterful Fandango Girls featuring Helen McFarlane’s costumes made this a stylish and compelling production.. As the nights become colder and darker, we hope that Charity’s infectious and relentless optimism will.
