There are over 100 options from which you can choose and we've explained a bit more about just four of them to give a flavour of the variety and range: Minimus projectEvery week two groups of year 12 girls doing Latin A level visit two local primary schools to run a lunchtime Latin club. We use the Minimus books, based around the life of a Roman family (and Minimus the mouse) in northern England, which have been specially developed to introduce primary school children to Latin. At the end of the year we help the children put on a Minimus play in Latin where they play all the main roles. Amnesty InternationalAmnesty is one of our most popular charities – there's always something going on around school to raise money and awareness about human rights. We have weekly letter-writing sessions and a weekly cake sale to pay for posting the letters. Every year we also organise a fund-raising concert with lots of things to do on stage or behind it. International Young Mathematicians’ CompetitionFor the last few years we've sent a team to the International Young Mathematicians' Competition in India. We take part in individual and group competitions for juniors and seniors, as well as problem-solving workshops and cultural presentations – and we visited a Bollywood complex where we danced to recent hits and enjoyed plenty of food. The Marble on NewsdayEvery year our school newspaper The Marble takes part in the Newsday competition to produce an entire newspaper in a day. We took over the IT facilities, laid on the all-important sustenance (chocolate muffins and cookies), trawled through the morning papers, picked out the top stories and planned what was going on each page. Nothing compares to the rush of the room buzzing with everyone writing articles, laying out their pages and figuring out the best graphics for their story. There’s nothing like a deadline to get the adrenaline going and nothing like knowing that ultimately the whole paper rests on your ability to bring the team together to focus your thoughts.
